iPhone 15 Pro Stops Recording Video Around 30 minutes

When I am recording a video, my iPhone 15 pro will randomly stop recording. It seems to stop around the 30 minute mark. I don’t know if it shows a message because I record art demonstrations so the phone is up above my head. I have plenty of available storage, I have turned off ProRes, and it does not get hot.

UPDATE: Issue disappeared after updating iOS 17.4. Updated from mac. My case is been followed by a high level technician from Apple. We did several tests after update and all went 100% ok without stops. I recorded 3 futsal matches after it without interruptions.

Update 3, so after much experimentation today, it's behaved worse than ever - 7ish minutes, 17ish minutes 2 ishminutes. I've captured it in the act using another iPhone! And it's interesting to see what it does... initially the moving image will freeze but the seconds count carries on for another 4 or 5 seconds before it does the usual stop sound it would make if you touched the stop button yourself. There's no argument that this is happening now. I have video proof. Now I'm struggling with the retailer who are being very obstructive about allowing me to send them the footage - will only accept a static photo of low MB as evidence. How I'm supposed to show a live action fault occuring with a photo is beyond me. Next step is my credit card company.

Yes, my people. This happened to me when I first purchased my iPhone 15 Pro Max 256 GB in October. Fully random, duration of the recording was also random. Tried restarts, fresh installs and everything it would always come back. Finally was able to get a new replacement and it was working perfectly. That is until last night, recording a volleyball game 3 mins in it stopped. Very very sad it's happening again. I record in 1080p 60fps with a Magsafe case on too. I'll try restarting and going aeroplane mode for tonight's game.

Very frustrating. I’m a professional speaker and from time to time do smaller workshops and I like the iPhone footage over my new Sony and this new phone is so random. 90 min workshop and I have clips of 6 min, 9 min and 11 min. I know this is an issue so I check periodically. Insane. Apple needs to fix this. I lost an hour of awesome footage that I can monetize.

I tried this but it disables the ability to record 4k 60fps, which is all I have tested so far.

Are you saying this was happening to you on even lower formats? Like 4k 30, 1080 30, etc???

That honestly gives me a little hope that this is a software fixable issue and not a hardware issue.

Though the fact the 15 has been out for 5 months and Apple has not even acknowledged the problem gives me very little faith in Apple’s willingness to fix the problem.

Or, the problem is only present in very few phones and we all need to just exchange our duds?

I’m so sick and tired of this iPhone 15 pro that I bought in October and I’ve had this issue ever since! My phone freezes right away when I start recording. The image freezes for 5 seconds and then it just stops recording. You can hear the noises at the background but the video is just a frozen image. Now last week it has started to do it in the middle of the videos too and very random times! After 30 seconds, 1 minute, sometimes after multiple minutes. This happens nearly EVERY DAY, but not on every video. Content creating is my job and I’ve lost so many once in a lifetime shots! I’m FURIOUS. I paid 1800 EUROS for this. I don’t want to buy a new one and be stuck with two phones that are useless!

Update to my previous message: After tens of phone calls and hundreds of messages with Apple support and one useless repair store visit later, Apple finally is sending me a new phone. Let’s hope it’s not worse than the previous one.

I also met a girl at an event yesterday that said her phone has been doing the same thing ever since she bought it but thought her storage is low. The issue is real and many people are having it, but only a small percentage is reporting and complaining about it 🫠

It's now been three months and I'm no further forward. I've captured video footage of the fault occuring and sent it to the retailer, who have been totally dismissive of it unless Apple themselves look at the footage. Sent the phone to the retailer twice now for them to fix, first time they returned as no fault found and the second time they did not even bother test it (confirmed by their own agent in a call which I have a recording of!) just saw it was from me and sent it back immediately with a "we told you there's nothing wrong with it" type letter. They're now telling me to contact Apple directly... I've performed every possible trouble shooting step as guided by Apple and it's not fixing it.

Very interesting. I will test this tonight. I will leave my phone recording all night and see how long it lasts.

I had this issue really bad with my first 15pm (stopped after about 15-30 mins), but Apple gave me a new one and this one always records for more than 2 hours, but then it still stops randomly after that.

I will run a test tonight and see if it can record a full 8 hours all night long, then I will be satisfied!
