“Confirm passcode on iCloud to LOCK device” (after being stolen 3 weeks ago) Legit or Scam ?

So my wife’s 13 got snapped out of her hands here in Saigon few weeks back. Find my iPhone can trace it but it’s a huge building. We put it in lost mode , enabled erase if it would pop online and kept it for now linked with the Apple account.

Yesterday, a message in Vietnamese popped up which SEEMINGLY Is the link to the official iCloud page in which the app now requests to type in the device passcode to LOCK the device.

Is this legit - a new feature or just a hack tool to get access to our phone ?

That's a common phishing scam: You may get a text or email from “Apple” or “Apple Security” (or sometimes “Police”) saying your phone has been found and to click on a link to see its location. This is NEVER from Apple or from law enforcement; it is from the thief or fence to steal your Apple ID and identity. Delete any such message without responding to it. Apple never gets involved in lost or stolen devices→Avoid phishing emails, fake ‘virus‘ alerts, phony support calls, and other scams
