I purchased a Mac mini as part of the Black Friday deal with a £ 80 discount in the form of a gift card. But my credit card shows I have been billed for my gift card instead of receiving it free

We purchased a Mac mini M2 as part of the Black Friday deal with a £ 80 discount in the form of a £80 gift card. We used our gift card towards a keyboard for the Mac mini, But our credit card shows we have been billed £ 80 for the gift card when we should not have been billed.

Can anybody explain who I contact because it seems like a billing error?

You need to contact the store where you bought it directly. Or your credit card to dispute the charge. Nobody in these forums represents Apple sales or any store.

From what I've seen, this is normal.

If you look at your invoice closely, you'll probably find that Apple charged you for two separate line items:

  • The Mac mini M2 – at list price, minus a credit equal to the value of the gift card.
  • The gift card – at face value.

If you keep both the Mac mini M2 and the gift card, then the gift card will essentially be free. The discount on the Mac mini will exactly offset the charge for the gift card. So you'll be out a net of £ 0 – and have a £ 80 gift card to show for it.

I believe the idea is to emphasize that you can't order the Mac mini and the "free" gift card, return the Mac mini for a full refund, and still keep the £ 80 gift card. (Which would basically be a way of ripping Apple off for £ 80).

It is an odd way of doing things, but that's how I gather that it works, after having seen the invoices for some other Macs sold with gift card promotions.
