Apple Music on MacBook not deleting songs removed from iPhone

Hi, I have an iPhone 13 pro (latest software) and MacBook Pro (12.6.5), and use Apple Music on my iPhone and Mac.

I have in options on my mac, sync library turned on, and keep music folder organised on. However when I delete a song from my library on my iPhone, although the songs disappears in Apple Music on my mac, the file remains on my mac. Any idea how to fix this or is this a known bug?

See Repair security permissions for iTunes/Music for Mac - Apple Community to check file permissions in your media folder. Add back in one of the songs that hasn't deleted when you expected it to be, then delete again from the phone and see what happens. Is it marked as removed but kept in the library, or deleted from the library, but left in your media folder, or removed completely? You may need to add in the whole media folder to reintegrate any orphaned tracks to the library which you can then delete again (sort songs by Date Added), hopefully this time removing from the media folder.

Before deleting another item use Cmd+I on the selected file, and then use the Get Info > File tab to see where it is stored. Is it marked as in the cloud/not on this comupter, or is there a file path. Assuming there is a path what is it, and what is the media folder as listed under the Music > Settings > File tab? If it is an Apple Music item check the folder that it would be stored in, i.e. <Media Folder>/[Music/]<Album Artist>/<Album> and see if there is one copy of the file or two before you delete anything.

What should happen when you remove an item from library on a device is that it is removed from a computer's library if it is stored in the cloud, or marked as removed if there is a local copy of the file such that it might be added back at a later date. It is possible for the library to become disconnected from local files, which might potentially explain your observation.

Hi, I checked the file properties, permissions etc - all fine. I deleted a song on my iPhone (apple music song), it immediately disappears from Music on the mac but the file remains. I'm not sure how the library can be disconnected, given that this is new Apple Music songs that I'm adding and then trying to delete. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
