How do I keep "now playing" from appearing on a lock screen of an Apple Watch?

I turned off the ‘App Refresh’, which is also in the general settings section. This seemed to work

1. Crown>Settings>General>Return To Clock
2. Scroll down to Music, tap it.
3. Scroll down to “Return to App,” turn this feature off.
4. Repeat for “Now Playing”
5. No need to delete apps!

Yay finally a solution! I have no idea what purpose this app serves. Glad I could delete it.

**** I tried the instructions in the post and deleting the Now Playing app but it’s still displays.

In the Watch app, disable auto launch audio apps. This should prevent any audio apps from automatically launching (Apple Music, Spotify, podcasts, or now playing for any other audio).

That doesn't work. Now playing still plays even though that is turned off.

Same here and I deleted the Now Playing app.

I've done all the things suggested and it's still playing. It's decimating my battery! There's got to be a way to fix this.

Apple Watch Series 9:

You have to go to settings > general > and turn off auto launch audio apps. > Turn off Apple Watch > Turn On > Done

Your post was seen today, Oct 2024, and it saved my nerves. The same thing happened out of nowhere. I tried other ways I read, but just deleting the app worked. Thank you.

This reply was the most helpful. No matter if I disabled “Auto-Launch”, went through the clock tab in My Watch app and set “Return to Clock” = Always, “Now Playing” still would pop up on my Apple Watch. I have no need for it on my watch so deleting the Now Playing app was the best option.
