iPhone passcode after factory reset

I erased all my data & selected the option to give the phone to a new user, but it is asking for a password on the “hello” setup screen. It’s not taking the original password from when I used it, & the new user claims they did not start the setup process so there should be no password request. Why is it asking for a password?

If you are the owner or the owner has shared all information with you then to open Activation Lock:- If it is Activation locked, read here --> Turn off Activation Lock - Apple Support Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Learn how to remove a device from a previous owner's account.

If you are not the owner and do not have the Apple ID and Password then there is no way that you can get into this iPhone unless the original owner shares the Apple ID and password with you. If you are lucky you can get into this iPhone if they (owner) accidentally remove the device from their Apple ID.

After swiping up from the hello screen, it asks for 6 digit passcode. I 1st tried the steps to remove activation lock password by hooking up iPhone to a computer & following those steps, with the recovery screen. I have gone into my iCloud account, removed all the off-line devices as instructed under “activation lock.“ That has not worked either, even though it says that it has successfully removed the devices from my iCloud account. In the history of my devices, I have only used one 6- digit code to enter my phones. Never changed, not once. After “removing devices” within my iCloud account, power cycled phone, still asking for pw, tried the only one I’ve ever had, locked phone for 1 hr. Guess the only option left is to open up a support ticket, however I have to wait until I can see the IMEI on screen, bc who keeps 2 yr old receipts or old phone boxes? Thermal receipts lose their ink anyway. Hopefully a trouble ticket will eventually fix it. 👍
