How to Update Shipping Contact in Apple Pay

I am trying to make a purchase in the Target App using ApplePay via my iPhone. I keep getting a message that says “update shipping contact”. I’ve followed all the guidance I’ve found.

Settings > Apple ID (your name at the top) > payment & shipping > address - edit as needed

  1. Go to settings>Wallet & Apple Pay>transaction defaults>address - update as needed
  2. Go to Wallet app>tap on any card>tap three dots in corner>tap address - edit as needed for all cards
  3. Go to settings>Apple ID (your name at the top)>payment & shipping>address - edit as needed.

I even tried shutting down my phone and restarting. Nothing works.

Hello all! I will give the CORRECT answer to this problem that doesn't seem to have been solved or is just given with vague to little information. I discovered this by accident and on my own when struggling to purchase something online myself (no thanks to Apple customer service!).

So when you are in the process of an online purchase and the Apple Pay screen comes up, on top it will show your primary card first, then a box right underneath it that says "Add Name." THIS is where you "Update Shipping Contact." You MUST click on this box, which there should be a blue arrow located on the right end side of this box.

  • When the "Add Name" box has been clicked on, type in your first and last name, email address, along with your phone number (there should be nothing else it asks of you to fill out). (Edit: for some this box may say "Add phone number" instead and that is fine as it is still the same place)
  • Next, you must "check off" each section where you entered in your information, simply by clicking it, which will show a blue checkmark next to it.
  • Once this is done and all blue checkmarks have shown up, you may back out of this screen and it should no longer give the "Update Shipping Contact" message but instead show the amount owed and the fingerprint to use Apple Pay!

Thank me later and not the useless and unhelpful Apple customer service team (they will not help you with this as they themselves do not even know what is causing this issue. They will pretend to act like they know what they are doing, give you the runaround, transfer you to different departments, put you on hold, and have you change your address in settings and in x, y, z locations on your phone which will have NO effect at all, then have you restart your phone and promise to call you back but never actually do)!

There are multiple correct answers and the key to getting it write is understanding which solution works for which of the different issues being encountered. the solution is different depending on if the transaction is via merchant app or website and if the device is an iPad, iPhone or Mac. Then the challenge is knowing which solution works with each variable and option. You solution only is >>correct<< under limited conditions and won’t help a bit on different websites, with different apps and devices.

SOLVED

So, I had the same issues as all above, I suspected that Apple in it's recent OSX update coded the address fields wrong and in my case that looks to be correct.

Apple Wallet REQUIRES you to enter something into the "Apt or Suite (optional)" field even though it is clearly OPTIONAL.

I simply added a "." in that field and then all apple pay transactions processed from there.

Come on Apple, seriously?

Apple Pay works because of the cooperation of 4 parties, issuing bank, payment network operator (Visa, MasterCard, etc.), merchant and to a lesser degree Apple.

In their efforts to reduce fraud the merchants, banks and PNO are establishing more precise controls on verifying fraudulent transactions. Merchants are using third parties to verify addresses and if the verifier encounters a mismatch the transaction may be denied. Apple doesn’t actively participate in that phase because the information they have is either anonymous or encrypted and your bank has the key.

However, Apple Pay can deliver more information and identify that your information may not match.

Check these three locations please.

Please follow this path;

iPhone > Settings > Apple ID (Your Name at top of screen) > Payment & Shipping > tap card to edit > tap Billing address > tap edit (upper right corner of screen) edit necessary changes

iPhone > Settings > Apple ID (Your Name at top of screen) > Payment & Shipping > Shipping Address (edit or delete address

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Transaction Defaults (scroll down) > Shipping Address > Edit (upper right corner of screen) > either Enter New Shipping Address, add new address or edit/delete addresses

Each card also has an address associated with the account. This address should match what the card issuer has on file.

Please follow this path;

iPhone > Wallet > tap Card > More Button (3 dots in a circle) > Card Details > Billing Address > Edit (upper right corner) > correct any errors, extra spaces etc.

Jeff,

When you click the Apple Pay button on a supported website, you normally receive a confirmation popup where you verify the designated payment account (Apple Card, Apple Cash, Debit Card, etc.), associated addresses, and additional shipping fees. To authorize the purchase, you are then asked to verify your identify via either Face ID, Touch ID or Apple Watch.

However, in the case of this error, you instead receive the screenshot I uploaded in lieu of the expected window. Once you confirm your shipping address via the method described, Apple Pay then loads the standard confirmation window and you can proceed with your purchase as normal.

It's possible that this is not a "bug" but a deliberate safety measure put in place by Apple to prevent fraud, in which case it is reasonable. However, the problem is in Apple's confounding application of the request, which by its verbiage incorrectly directs users to System Settings, combined with the inability of anyone from Apple Software to Apple Pay to understand the actual error being made or provide a solution.

Your comment is unwarranted as it provides no solution but instead just seems to bash on my comment for whatever reason you may have. I hope you redirect your thoughts and comments to something more productive. At least I was able to provide a solution with more clarity and detailed instructions that seems to have helped others. Hope you have a blessed day.

If you read through this thread, you will see that there are multiple issues being discussed and therefore multiple solutions. If you even look at the title of post, it specifically mentions the Target website. Target has/had an issue correctly displaying their website on some Apple devices.

About a page in, people started posting random issues just remotely related to the original issue with Target websites. As I’ve suggested before, there are multiple issues being discussed and multiple solutions. If one doesn’t work for you, just move on. The multiple solutions I have posted, work for the posters that have that specific issue, but perhaps not yours.

I hope you have a great weekend too! 😀

I’m not sure if you have a personal issue with my comment but again, sorry if it offended you somehow, though I’m not sure why it would in the first place 🤔 I’m not trying to start any sort of drama on here and idk what your intentions are by stating my solution doesn’t work for everything if anything at all when it has clearly worked for me personally and others. I don’t comment on public forms often but wanted to provide some insight and solution to others who may have had similar issues to me but with more clarity and details as I was unable to find that. I’m no longer replying to any your comments moving forward as it is garnering more attention than needed and is an unproductive use of time and energy, for me at least. Best of luck to you on your endeavors and perhaps you can redirect your attention and energy to other posts with issues that actually need help instead of replying to me about how my original comment may not be helpful to anyone as you stated that you have posted your multiple solutions. If my solution doesn’t work for you, you can just move on simply. Again, have a blessed day that you deserve 🙂
