Why is my audio device pane empty when using an outboard interface?

Hi, Richard Strachan1, which/what model of the Universal Audio Apollo Interface do you have? Some messing around with Audio MIDI setup (found in your "Utilities" folder) may be necessary to create an aggregate multi channel output....Oh...only registered users can download software for Apollo Thunderbolt interface...Hmmm...anyways the link for that is here"https://www.uaudio.com/downloads/uad

Hi John, sorry about the delay replying.I have an Apollo x8p. When I followed your link to UAD I discovered my software had an update to install. Thanks for that, I guess I have to check the UA site once in a while if they don't alert me to an update. Anyway, reading your reply made me think about why I'm in this particular rabbit hole. I think I don't need a multi channel output right now. I think that the reason the audio device pane is blank is because I don't have any devices! Except for the Apollo of course, but I'm not doing any mixing so MON L and MON R are enough for right now. Not doing surround sound, etc. I have a pretty simple plain vanilla set-up but I can get confused anyway.Thanks for the heads up!@
