will the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition work with my mac pro mid 2012 and apple led cinema screen

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 mid 2012 running high sierra 10:13:2 and won’t upgrade to :6. It has the standard graphics card 5770.

my question is which metal capable cards are compatible for the Mac Pro and my 27” Apple Cinema Display A316 led.

many help would be much appreciated.

P.S

I did try a gigabyte Radeon HD 7950. It turned on the Mac, but led screen was a mess, so put the 5770 back in and all fine. I think the 7950 was duff.

the absolute LAST support for NVIDIA cards is in 10.14 Mojave. After that, Apple and NVIDIA could not agree on technical information sharing and timely delivery of fully tested drivers, so they parted ways. I would not spend money on an NVIDIA card today.

wait, what?

There are no new requirements added between 10.13.2 and 10.13.6!

what error messages do you get?

It completes installation then fails to install. It just says failed to install 10:13:6 and no explanation. No issues with any other software except Adobe cs 5 crashes on exiting. I changed some Adobe files and now it behaves as it should.

I want to upgrade to a metal capable card, so I can utilise my editing time on Mac well.

There should be an Installer log available while installing. if macOS was fully functional while installing that log should have been saved.

I could not find where the file is stored, but it can be viewed by launching Console.app, clicking on the date column to sort by most recent date at top, then selecting install.log

this file on my Mac is one composite file of all recent installer activity, and opens with the most recent items at the bottom. if you could select that last screenful, and copy to the clipboard, you can Paste the clipboard text with the 'Additional text' icon in the forum reply footer.
