I typed MUSIC in the SEARCHING ' THIS MAC' search box. I got back a gozillion Apple...4 audio files and MP3 files. 10,20,30 multiples of SAME MUSIC FILES.
I'm lost. I'm trying to free up space on an older MacBook Pro. All help is welcome...thanks!
Does the search you've initiated include a Time Machine location? See Duplicate songs in iTunes/Music - Apple Community and Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community for advice on tidying up your library. You may have legacy media from previous iTunes libraries that isn't connected to your active library and could be safely deleted. Often best to back up everything first just in case you get too enthusiastic when deleting things.

Without knowing where the files are located it is hard to be certain which are unwanted duplicates that it is safe to delete, or which might be artefacts of the way Finder indexes files. I don't think there is an easy fix. Gather more details. Work slowly and carefully. Search specific folders rather than This Mac. The data recovery software may be partially responsible for the multiplication of files. Where did you tell it to put recovered data?
As for the iPod see Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community. You probably need to fix the local space issues before you try this.

If I can start from the beginning. I recently, accidentally because of ignorance, deleted an Ipod Classic with almost 9k songs. I then recovered some, with Cisdem data recovery software, and since then have been trying add them to 'Music app', where Original IPOD music once was. I don't have a clue, as to whether this is even possible, but I do know 'Time Machine' is not working, except to back a day or two.
All this being separate from my original question, regarding SEARCH 'THIS MAC, and the music files found...AND WHAT TO DO WITH THEM???
