How do I reduce music files on MacBook Air?

I've deleted 30gb of songs that have never been played after transferring them to an external drive, but this hasn't been reflected in any savings on my MacBook Air? How is this so? & what can I do to get this data down, as I haven't got enough headroom to download the latest O/S

What you can do to create more free space:

• Empty the Trash in the Dock.

• Empty the trash in the Photos app.

• Delete unused and unneeded application installers from your downloads folder and desktop. No need to store on your Mac what you can freely download any time.

• Reboot your Mac at least weekly. Let the OS do its housekeeping.

• Transfer files that you don’t use daily to an external drive and then delete them from the startup drive and empty the trash. Files that take up the most room are movies, images and music.

If you have Time Machine set to automatically backup your Mac, but do not keep the backup drive connected all the time, then the MacOS will keep a number of Time Machine snapshots on the drive as part of the backup process.  These snapshots can occupy a significant amount of drive space. You can disable the creation of these many TM snapshots by setting TM to backup manually.

You can view and manage these Time Machine snapshots directly in Disk Utility.

"How do I reduce music files on MacBook Air?: Neither of these replies addresses the issue I have, why after deleting 30GB of music files is my Apple Music app not showing a corresponding reduction in memory usage on my MacBook drive?"
