Wifi speeds much slower than wired speeds on 3 seperate New Apple products

From several reviews that I have read about the Eero 6E, you need to be right next to the router to obtain high speeds and some report even then the speed isn't that great. Move away and the speeds start to drop dramatically. This is generally true with all WiFi routers with some much better than others. There have also been issues with Eero routers having difficult time determining how to connect to different devices.

Unfortunately, most of the latest mesh routers have taken much of the users control out of their hands for "ease of set up". For instance, the routers only have a single ID and it decides which radio bands you can connect to, and I believe the Eero line is one of those. More sophisticated WiFi routers will have separate IDs for 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands and a client device can chose which network to connect to for either performance or reach (2.4GHz band can connect at longer distances than the 5 and 6 GHz bands but is slower). Each of those bands is broken up in several channels and if in a WiFi busy neighborhood, if the router picks a channel that is very busy with other wiFi traffic, speed will also be degraded. Again, in more sophisticated routers, you can have the option to chose which channel you can communicate over to move away from those busy channels.

There is also a bit of smoke and mirrors on WiFi specs. While they can claim blazing speeds, in reality many just provide more bandwidth to more devices while not providing that bandwidth to single devices, i.e. 4 devices simultaneously working at 300 Mb/s (totaling 1.2 Gb/s).

Lastly, one thing that can greatly affect WiFi speeds is the environment. Are you in a relatively densely populated neighborhood with lots of people with WiFi? Is the router located near a lot of other electronic or electrical devices? There are many other such things that can degrade the performance at WiFi frequencies especially the higher ones. So, one thing to try may be relocate the router higher, away from any other electronics or electrical devices, etc.

So, the whole WiFi world is very complex and most of the time solutions to speed issues are not simple and difficult to resolve if at all. It is not surprising that the first level help that you get when you call support cannot be of much use as they are trained only for the most common issues.

Personally I have a very strong dislike for any router that:

1. You are required to have an app on your phone to set it up.
2. You are required to log into some server who knows where in the world and who knows how secure it is in order to set up the router that is two feet away from you (feel pretty much that way about any IOT devices).
