Trying to delete macOS Mojave, receiving an error that it's in use.

When I try to reboot my Intel Mac into recovery mode, it brings up the screen for me to type in my Mac password but it won't accept it. is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there any way to fix this without going to an apple shop?

What is the exact model of this Mac? You can get this information by entering the system serial number into the check coverage Apple website here:

Does this Mac still boot normally or into Safe Mode? Then it would be best to create a bootable macOS USB installer now while you still can since Apple may have turned off the ability to access some of the older online macOS installers so that you may have more options available.
