Apple Watch Ultra2 display died

My Ultra2 "suddenly" turned on the "flashlight" display for no reason- full white ( conveniently in a dark room with others). The watch then became completely unresponsive. I tried the force restart (hold crown and side button for 10s) and the full flashlight stopped but the screen remained blank ( no apple logo etc). I was able to unpair and reset the watch ( suggesting that the watch was still seen by my iPhone), but again , no apparent change. The watch randomly flashes part of the display white. I tried "the force restart while on the charger" as well.

So I am pretty sure it's a display hardware failure, so off to the Apple Genius Bar.

Since the Ultra2 is only a few months old, the "old" Apple would probably just give me a new watch under warranty, but I am guessing that with this lawsuit I am royally , well you know, and any replacement could take until Apple works that out.

I don't have AppleCare+, I have never needed repairs on my two prior Apple Watches or any of my many Apple devices so AppleCare+ has always seemed a waste of money. I'm singing a different tune now :)
