Airpods Gen 3 hissing sound and max volume with zoom; no trouble with music

Connected the Airpods to my HP Sceptre H360 and set the volume through system settings to a reasonable level.

Getting a loud hissing when connected to Zoom, and the volume of the audio through the airpods is at max. How can I get rid of the hissing, and lower the volume? Airpods play well with the music from the same computer.
