How do I silence iPad when locked?

There used to be an option to silence notifications when locked on my iPad. I have not been able to find this option in at least the last 2 iPadOS upgrades (16 and 17). I have been making do without this feature by having Do Not Disturb turned on all the time. Unfortunately having Do Not Disturb on all the time does not fit my workflow anymore. I have looked many times over the last couple of years and have not found a solution. How do I automatically silence notifications when my iPad is locked?
