New Gen 4 nano not supported by Apple

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can download my library into my brand-new generation 4 iPod nano?

I just purchased a brand-new in the box generation for iPod nano. When I tried to download my library from iTunes to the new iPod. It would not respond.

When I clicked on devices all the options to the right were grayed out.

Why I called Apple support and they told me that the iPod nano 4 was considered obsolete, & though it was brand-new in the box they could not offer support.

Any suggestions on how I can download my library and use this iPod nano? I don't want to purchase a 4 year old iPod Touch for $200 or more.

I am inclined to stop using Apple products If I can't use this nano.

I also own an iPad Gen 7 tablet that I've had for several years and

iphone 12 mini.

It's evident that Apple does not want to support his long time customers that own older devices that might need just an update to continue working properly.

Apple is always more expensive than android devices, at this point I don't think Apple is worth the extra price.

They are driving me to their competitors.

I appreciate any help or comments.

To move on then, is the iPod seen by your iTunes Library? The iPod icon should appear at the top of the iTunes window:

Once the icon appears, can you select it? It should then display the Device/Settings/Summary pane:

If the iPod icon does not appear, try:

to see if either document helps.

Thanks for your help. I tried clicking on the icon that you showed in the illustration that you sent and that did not work.

I decided to try my older HP laptop to see if it might work, and it did.

I'm not sure why my newer HP laptop doesn't support it, but my older one downloaded all the songs onto my new generation 4 ipod.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

have a blessed and happy new year!

If the battery is very low, it will not respond so if the iPod has been sitting around for that long, you will have to wait for the battery to receive some charge before it will become usable. That is assuming the battery still accepts charge after all this time.

This is simply an observation, based on your additional comments, but you cannot expect Apple to keep supporting a product that they no longer make and even though you may describe it as new, I doubt that you purchased it from Apple.
