Chinese Keyboard Input Problem

I’ve noticed an issue where I’m typing and sometimes it will not use the characters I selected and just keep the pinyin within the sentence. For example:

这个diannao有问题

(It should change diannao to the characters 电脑）

I am positive I have clicked on the character option I want, but still it will sometimes just give me the romanised letters.

I thought it was odd when it kept happening on my ipad (typing on the touchscreen) but figured maybe I was misclicking. However today I connected my Bluetooth keyboard and noticed I was still having the same problem! How can I fix this, it is so annoying to go back through my sentences and re type the words that didn’t register the characters I chose…!

I haven’t really noticed it happen on my phone or computer, so wonder if my ipad has a problem.

All devices on update 16.6.1

Ipad is generation 8? Can’t quite remember other model details.
