My Time Machine backup seems to take "forever" and backs up more than it should

Lately my ™ backup seems to take "forever" and is backing up way more data (Gb) than I could have changed since the previous backup.

This slowdown seems to be fairly recent and I can't think of anything that has changed.

24 inch M1, iMac (2021), 16 GB memory, 1 GB drive, formatted APFS, 185 GB free, running Sonoma 14.1.2

TimeMachine drive is an 8 GB disk drive, but is partitioned so that only 4 GB are used for TimeMachine backups.

Download DriveDX and run a report on the External Hard Disk, if any errors appear than the External Hard Disk is failing and needs replacing. You really have only described what you own and what you are sensing, we cannot diagnose what forever means to you only you can.

Also try restarting the computer in Safe Mode with the External Hard Disk cable disconnected then reconnect and restart normally and test the foreverness quotient. :-)

If it's still too long and you have no errors from the DriveDX report then please do the following:
