Why wont my Apple Watch SE not boot after being on water mode when it was in a salt pool?

Turned my watch on water mode and went into a salt pool for less than a few mins and was in shallow watch, the Apple logo appeared and tried to reboot unprompted and now it wont reboot at all even after being rinsed and charged. Is my watch dead now?

Apple Watch SE, watchOS 10

The watches aren't waterproof, they are water resistant.

About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support

As stated, some chemicals and physical strikes can damage the water-resistant seals which may them allow water to damage the watch irreparably.

Was your watch damaged in any way before using it in the pool? I have had mine in oceans, lakes, pools and hot tubs with no ill effect.

But in case of damage I don’t believe Apple will warranty it as it was mentioned in the other reply…water resistant not water proof.

FYI all water mode does is prevent accidental screen taps and when removing the water lock it ejects water from the speaker. That is all it does. It does not protect the watch from water.

Thanks for the prompt response Dah-veed and Randy~

My watch had no prior damage expect for the smallest of scratch on the screen. I’m aware the water is water resistant and not water proof but thought it was strange when I dipped into the pool with the water mode on and the screen rebooted and the apple logo came on. I was in the pool for less than 2 mins and it rebooted twice and the pool was less than a few feet deep.

I immediately got out of the pool and put it in my locker on a dry towel and carried on and when I returned it wouldn’t boot at all. When I got home I rinsed it and left to dry again and then put on the charger. It retrained heat but never booted.

I am unable to pull log files from the watch and no other Apple device sees it locally and even my “find my device” app cannot locate it.

I basically just watched it die. Pun not included :(

Valid point, though as the person who has worn it every day it hasn’t even been dropped off a night side table let alone any physical damage that would justify an internal seal being broken.

I’ve had it in lakes, oceans, pools, showers all before and never once having an issue.

Hence why I’m puzzled on why it would have a seal issue that would result it shorting out.

I have had friends who are actually rough and have damage to theirs and the screens and haven’t experience this issue even when it’s come into contact with water.

Just a shame to have it happen and wondered if I was the only one.

Out of the dozen times I have showered with it I highly doubt that Johnson’s baby gentle body wash has the chemicals capable to dissolve Apple’s water seals.

Frankly, the watch has been exposed to water less than 2 dozen times in the life and barely gone in the water for more than a few mins.

I appreciate the insight though knowing the usage of this watch since purchasing, general usage doesn’t warrant this product not working.
