Thank you for the information. Early GSM mobile phones had the ability to operate as a wireless dial-up modem (typically, via a PCMCIA/PC Card adapter connected to a laptop), but that was really a separate system in the mobile/cellular network structure.

Modern smartphones like the iPhone are not normally intended to be used that way. Someone else here may know whether a suitable hardware/software solution involving a link to a serial computer port might exist anyway.

Otherwise, the easiest way could perhaps be to ask a friend with a landline connection whether it would be possible to carry out the activation with the Windows XP laptop there.

Hi,

Normally, you would have to use an external/internal serial modem at the Windows XP computer. The modem would then use a landline phone connection in order to contact a dial-up number. A modem at the activation site would then answer the call. A web browser compatible with Windows XP may be needed as well. Is this the way it is supposed to work here? If so, do you have access to a serial modem and a landline phone connection? Alternatively, is it possible to connect to the activation site via the Internet without using the dial-up number in question?
