DCIM not showing up on MacBook Air

I'm trying to upload footage from my digital camera (Sony ZV-1) to my MacBook Air; however, when connecting my digital camera via a USB cord, the DCIM folder never appears in the files. I've been able to upload my data from my digital camera before, so I'm not sure what the issue may be.

Suggestions:

Try a different USB cable, or a different USB port on your Mac.
In the Finder's Preferences (or Settings) > General, confirm External disks is selected: See the devices connected to your Mac - Apple Support
If all else fails start your Mac in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support, and determine if the external disk (camera) appears while in that mode.

The online user manual for that camera indicates that you can set Setup > USB Connection to

Auto
Mass Storage
MTP (which I think stands for Media Transfer Protocol)

There's a note saying that it my take some time to make the connection to a computer if the setting is Auto.

Any chance that this camera setting got changed recently, and that this is when the connection troubles began?
