iCloud mail rules -vs- MacBook mail rules

Its ridiculous that I have email rules defined on my MacBook Air that won't run in iCloud mail.

This means that unless I keep my MacBook open and running and the mail app active and running that my rules don't apply at all and I get lots of junk mail on my iPhone.

This is completely unacceptable. Does anyone know if Gmail has filter rules that work all of the time regardless of my MacBook Air status?

iCloud mail rules are applied server side, and Mac mail rules are applied on the client side. Email coming in on your iCloud mail will first be filtered using the server side rules, and when downloaded by your Mac, your Mac mail rules will be applied.

You may want to migrate your Mac mail rules to iCloud, but might you, if you have a rule that saves/moves email to a local sub-folder, then that won't work on iCloud.

This is the same with Google's Gmail, unless you only use Gmail via the browser, instead of using a mail client like the Mac's Mail.app.

Good luck.
