Why is sleep tracking such a big issue even for techies?

I have been using smart watches for the last few years and have tried them all. Right from the cheapest to most expensive watches. I wasn’t sure about Apple Watches till last year but took a plunge to test it.

Got myself a series 9 watch. ****, it’s pathetic with sleep tracking or any day to day activity tracking.. it’s basically a monitor according to data you provide. Garbage in = Garbage out.

Thats fine. But why is it that even cheapest watches can give a probable reading on sleep tracking but not on apple devices? I see multiple people constantly complaining and some solutions here and there are working! Please consider and come up with a universal fix.

Thanks.

You’re not addressing Apple here. You would need to submit feedback via the form to do that. As far as the sleep tracking….I honestly haven’t heard anyone I know personally have any issues with it unless their bands were too loose and their watch moved while they were sleeping. I don’t use my watch for sleep tracking (I don’t want to virtually wear a watch 20+ hours a day) so I use an Oura ring for that purpose and have the data synced to my Health app. Generally speaking I think if getting the most accurate sleep data and info is a huge priority or the primary use of any smart watch or device it might be a good idea to search for something that main feature and biggest strength is sleep tracking.

As far as you implying that any day to day activity tracking is also terrible….and relies on only the data you provide…that’s not really true for most users. You don’t have to manually input all data (although some things you would as it is not what the watch ever recorded and unless you have another device that actively records certain data and can sync to the Health app you would need to input it if you want it to show in a centralized place). Now if you’re wanting more detailed analysis for specific things you will need to supplement with apps that target the tracking features you seem to have an issue with….and understand that the free version will only give you so much. If you need much more information you will need to subscribe. This is even true with the Oura ring…you get the basic info without needing a subscription but if you want more then you need the subscription.
