Pickup not allowed

I’ve been trying to buy a new MacBook Pro but it doesn’t allow me to pickup at the store. Yes the store has the MacBook in stock. Also it happened with anything I set for store pickup it only allowed me to deliver within 2 hours. One more detail, I am a veteran and if I walk to the store the discount doesn’t apply is online only

Apple policy has changed. MOST computers and iPads, and many phones are no longer sold online for in-store pickup. You are NOT being singled out.

Apple looked more closely at how items were being stocked, and how old-fashioned methods of stocking at one store was costing them too much money on 'float'. Now a 'cloud' of inventory is available to a large metropolitan area, regardless of what store holds the box.

The long lines at their stores, in a time when COVID is not completely over, were not doing anyone any good either, and custom delivery at the store was taking too much employee time for mundane deliveries.

I get that but what I tried to buy is part of the store inventory and if I shipped it will come out from that store not from the warehouse

There is no warehouse per se.

Your unit will come out of whatever source Apple decides is most expedient at the moment your order hits their system. That MAY be shipped to you from a store in your area, or possibly from a store on the other side of the county, or it will more likely be custom built and sent from a factory in China.

But it is Apple's choice about where to get the goods to send to you. They are now optimizing for low 'float' of unsold inventory, so they ship from any one of MANY sources, direct to you.

Tim Cook was originally hired by Apple to do 'just in time" manufacturing, and I expect it has increasingly irked him to have tens of millions of dollars of unsold inventory, just floating around getting ready to be sold. So I expect he told his people to "fix that".

The 'fix' is a newly established ability to deliver (by taxi) to you directly for an additional fee if the item is available nearby, or ship existing inventory from MANY other locations across the country, or build you a new uint in the factory.
