Adapter for USB-C (female) to lightening (male)

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and want to use the wired Apple EarPods Headphones with usb- plug (I prefer wired headphones over wireless). Is there an adapter that works for this? Everything I find is only for charging and not headphone use :(.

If so, currently Apple does not have an adapter that can perform this. “ My question is: Is this still true? I have an iPad Pro -11 inch and am about to order USB-C EarPods to use with it. But I also have an iPhone 14 (lightning) and it would be nice to be able to use them with it as well. Thanks P.S. If this can not be done, can someone explain why?

Ear Pod Adapters from Iphone 12 to iPhone 15, what is the proper adapter that I need. I cann ot connect my old ear pods to the USB port on my iPhone 15. The USB C to headphone jack does not work.
