Trouble opening dms file on Mac

I can kind of open the file in text edit, but I can’t really tell what’s it about or what sort of file it's supposed to be other than it was downloaded from Joyce Meyer webpage. I’ve tried The Unarchiver, but that can’t open it either. MaxUAE isn’t supported on my laptop. I’ve tried moving the download to the laptop hard drive, right clicking and "get info”, then coping the the location it is from into Safari, but I get an “opps, you’ve wondered off the path. The page you’re looking for doesn’t exit” page error 404. I’ve tried coping the file and renaming it to .pdf as that it the file it might have previously been, but I get a "The file “AnualReport copy.pdf” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise.” message. Is there anything else I can try to open the file?

Here I quote from a posting by @ Gary Scotland so any acknowledgements below to him

" First, try opening in Text Edit, any plain text in the file will show up and may give you some guidance

Next, contact the originator of the file to find out what the file type should be so you can change the file extension as follows:

I have this note from my filetype data base:

A file with a .dms extension is a file that has been downloaded and renamed by the Apple Safari web browser or the Apple Mail email client. It contains the contents of a file that did not have a file extension or was erroneously renamed when downloaded. The .dms extension is a result of a bug in Safari and Mail.

For example, sample.pdf may become sample.dms or sample.pdf.dms when downloaded with Safari or Mail.

To open a DMS file, rename the .dms extension with the appropriate extension for the file type. For example, if you know you downloaded an .XLSX file that was renamed with the .dms extension, click on the extension to highlight it and change it back to .xlsx. Then, you can open the file with a program that supports XLSX files. "
