Scroll lag on trackpad with ProMotion enabled
Hi,
I have read that this issue is present for all new M1 Macbook laptops and wanted to raise this concern as well since it is happening to me more and more frequently.
The issue is that after using the laptop for a couple of days without shutting it down (only closing the lid), trackpad scroll becomes so laggy that it's almost not usable until I Log Out or Restart my laptop.
The solution that I have found out is to switch from ProMotion refresh rate to regular 60Hz refresh rate. In that case, scroll becomes normal and does not cause any noticeable lags.
I have also researched that some third party apps (such as Logitech app and Chrome) may cause the lag to occur, but after uninstalling them completely, the issue still persists.
So, to conclude, the only solutions that I have discovered are:
- Log out the user and log back in
- Restart macbook
- Switch back to 60Hz from ProMotion (120Hz)
I'm fine with logging out the user or even switching the refresh rate back to 60Hz but I would like to find out what is the cause for this scroll lag because I strongly believe that it may have something to do with drivers or cache issue since this only happens after a couple of days of not shutting down macbook.
I've also read that Apple is aware of this but I haven't heard that they have addressed this issue, nor fixed it through software update.
Did you have similar issues and did you find out what is causing this?
