How can I optimise MacBook Pro M1 to reduce application lag

When I move applications around on my desktop, there is a terrible lag; the same happens when I scroll and when I try to slide through applications on the bottom of my screen. It's killing me. A reboot fixes it for a short time. I'm running 15.3.1 Sequoia.

Lag can be due to unneeded third-party anti-virus software or so-called "cleaning" apps. Are any of those installed?

+1 on the EtreCheck report. It gives us a data-driven evaluation in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your computer. We can quickly and within the limitations of these forums help you determine what issues are at play without our playing a protracted game of "20 Questions" with you that could go on for days.

The free version will do nicely for this purpose, although the app is worthy of our financial support.

We can see hard data about drive performance, software issues and interferences, and RAM usage. Etrecheck is the development of a long-serving and trusted ASC contributor. At any given time I have multiple applications open on multiple desktops, often across multiple monitors. I drag these to different places within a screen, or to other desktops, or other monitors. This used to be, basically, instantaneous, but now lags horribly. This is also true on the application bar along the bottom of the screen; it is crazy trying to land correctly. The lag also shows up when I'm scrolling within a document or in a finder window.
