Just as the title says. I restored through iCloud and I have a year of pictures missing.

Did you sync photos to iCloud or back them up to iCloud? Or neither?
iCloud+ has 2 independent functions. iCloud backups, and iCloud sync. It’s confusing because they both have the same name prefix. But they have no connection with each other. Go to Settings/[your name]/iCloud. You will see a bunch of switches (with iOS 16 also tap Show All). When you turn on a switch that data type will sync to iCloud. If you do this on multiple devices that share an Apple ID the selected data will sync to all of those devices.
You can also turn on iCloud Backups. This will back up your phone every night if the phone is plugged in, connected to Wi-Fi and locked.
But note that anything that you sync by the first method will be excluded from the iCloud backups.
I backed up my phone to my PC. After a very long time it said it had an error. I couldn’t try again and I was getting an error when sincing the new phone so I called support and they got the backup to install.
one thing I notice is, when I plug my phone into my PC on iTunes it says I have 3k more photos than what my phone says. I don’t have hidden photos or deleted photos. These missing photos are important because they are for work and I need to reference progress of work. Just clarifying it’s not just selfies and cats hahah
I got a new phone and transferred all my stuff from the old phone to new. After already sending my old phone back I realized I’m missing about a year of pictures. Is there any way to get them back?
