Create Restore disk for older MacBookPro

Older MacBookPro (10,1 running Catalina) won't boot; have no recovery disk. How do I create one on an M1 iMac? The MBP won't start even after resetting the SMC, nor in Recovery mode. Hangs with the Apple logo and the progress bar halfway done.

You cannot create a bootable drive for a 2012-2013 Mac with an M1 Mac. This requires using another Mac that is capable of running the version of macOS you wish to create the bootable drive for.

If you can get you hands on an Intel Mac of similar vintage that is capable of running macOS Catalina, then you may be able to create a bootable flash drive to use on the problem machine.
