I would set it up in your Contacts application.

You can do this in Contacts, rather than Mail, by creating a new list (File > New List OR shift/command/N) and populate this with all the people you want to email.

When you have finished adding contacts you can right click on the list and choose "send email to [list name]"

This will crate a new email with the email addresses taken from the list in Contacts.

I bet I'm older...

In the link I provided did you see...

Creating a Group Contact

To create a group contact to the Contacts App, follow the directions below.

  1. Open the Contacts App from your Dock or in the Applications folder.
  2. Click the Button with a Plus Sign →  New Group (Figure 1).
  3. A new entry will appear in the Group column under On My Mac.
  4. Type a descriptive name for the group, such as “History 107” (for your History class) or “Family” and then click the Return Key on your keyboard.
  5. Once you create your group, you can add contacts to the group. To add contacts to your group, click All Contacts from the menu on the left, then drag and drop contacts from the Name column onto the group contact you created.
    1. If contacts are not getting added to your list, check to see if you created a smart list. Contacts cannot be added to smart lists. See Smart Contacts for more info.
  6. You can also create New Contacts within the group by once again clicking the Button with a Plus Sign and then selecting New Contact.

and as a post script - I was so focussed on Contacts that I forgot to add that you can summon up the email address in the list you created in Mail by typing the name of the list in the To field, CC, or BCC. The name of the list will pop up, you will confirm the choice by a click or pressing return and it will populate the selected field with all the email addresses from that list.

Hi, I did create such a New List by dragging names from a previous list. I used this list once to create and send an email message regarding an upcoming meeting...all of the name appeared as I entered them. Here is my question. Can I create a List and send mail without the individual names appearing? And just the name of my File:

My example:

To: CWA_Members

With that being the only line that appears in my mail message? And not the individual names of the recipients?

I've been retired for years and have continuous questions but use my iMac daily.

Thank you.

Hi, I read your reply several days ago...New Group is not a title that appears on my iMac desktop...I have the choice of New Contact or New List. Are the choices List and Group interchangeable? No Group icon is available for my choice. I haven't worked in years but used distribution lists constantly for my job. The laboratory used PC's; my husband and I have ALWAYS been Mac people! Let me know if List and Group are the same-same choice.

I remain old!
