Apple Care + and Warranty are same or different?

When I try to Purchase an iPhone it shows in the end to get Apple care. Is that necessary to get Apple care while purchasing an iPhone? I have another doubt is there no warranty that comes with the iPhone rather than Apple Care, I mean the one-year international warranty they give?
