Message App lagging/slow to respond

Hi all,

My boss' message app on his iPhone 15 Pro Max is not responding as it should. He is currently on version 17.2.1 so is up to date. His capacity is at about 80% as is his battery degradation. I've done a soft reset of the phone as well as force closing the app several times. All other apps are running fine on his phone, it is just the message app that takes several seconds to respond/load and starting or loading a new conversation has taken as much as 1 minute to respond. Any ideas?

You can clear the messages in 'Recently Deleted' on this app. I think this is just a performance issue related to the way how the message app deal with these deleted messages. After I cleaned them all, the message app worked smooth again.

My iPhone15 was doing the same thing. At first I thought the the app was freezing, but it was just lagging behind. I opened the app, selected edit and deleted all of the recently deleted messages and now things seem to be running as they used to. I appreciate the tip!

I did the steps to remove deleted messages, update my iPhone 15 iOS to 17.5.1 and still problems.

what else should I do?
