I have looked through all of my settings, app-specific and iOS, and have not found any reason why my notifications flood the top of my screen once I unlock my device... this is quite possibly the most annoying thing in the world when you're trying to navigate through things after unlocking, only to inadvertently click on a notification...

Have you enabled Scheduled Summary? Enable Immediate Delivery
Settings > Notifications > [Select the App that you are having trouble receiving immediate notifications]
