Copying Folders and SmartWord collections between Libraries on the SAME drive.

Just learned something. I created a new Event in the Original Library. I attempted to copy-drag the main 'Folder' containing all the 'SmartWord Collections' over to the new Event (in the same Library). The same thing happens ... titles but no projects or clips. Duh.

Then I discovered if I copy over 1. all the Projects; then 2. all the Clips, directly, ignoring the Folders and SmartWord Collections ... everything copies over beautifully INCLUDING the Folders and SmartWord Collections I've created. Most wonderful.

Now I'm copying that Event to the New Library (holding down the option key). It's taking a precious long time. The Background Tasks show FCPX seems to be doing a 'Transcoding and Analysis' of every single clip. That's a few hundred clips. Looks like it will take hours. I was under the impression that copying between two Libraries on the same drive does not produce NEW media; that both Libraries access the SAME media, unless I move the NEW Library to a NEW dive, then I have to 'Consolidate' the New Library to the New drive, thus creating or copying all the relevant Media to the New drive.

Maybe you could tell me what all this 'Transcoding' is? The 'Event' is a 1 hour film with a lot of multi-cam. Could the multi-cam have something to do with this?

Okay, ****, I'm watching the space on the RAID drive disappear. Now I'm getting nervous.

"Select the library and use g=delete generated library files. Remove all render, optimized, and proxy as you like. This doesn't affect analysis files, which should be in the cache bundle."

Not quite getting this here. I click on the Library file in the Browser. In the Inspector I can see I've got 2.7 TB of Original Content. Optimized 411.7GB, and Proxy 64.8GB.

What does use g=delete generated library files mean?

Dang. You're so smart Tom. So glad you are there. I'm getting a glimmer of the relevance and value of an Event that I didn't have before. May start using more of them now.

I may be wrong about the disappearing space on the RAID drive. It seems to be NOT changing ... it's as if it was disappearing, then I looked ten minutes later and it was back to the original count. Maybe it's my brain that's losing available space.

I just turned off 'Create optimized media for multicam clips'.

FCPX is still grinding away 'Transcoding' clips ... a LOT of clips.

Where do I delete 'generated files'? In 'Final Cut Optimized Media'? I'm looking in that folder, and there is nothing recent ... (last folder was 2022).

Craziness is setting in. I was copying the Clips and Projects in a single Folder into a NEW Event, which I then copied to a NEW Library.

I look at the NEW Event in the NEW Library ... and it looks like the entire friggin' Event has been copied (are being copied) over. This was one film, all clips and projects in a single folder in a single original Event. But there were 24TB's worth of multiple films in that Event (when including Media), organized in Folders and SmartWord Collections instead of 'Events'. There are only 32 TB's available in the RAID setup. I'm thinking I better stop all this transcoding. I suspect I've messed up.

Found it! Ha. When I think how many times I've done this (deleted generated files), but not recently. FCPX not-like-riding-a-bike.

I see my NEW Library is only 500 Megs. The Original Library was 7 GBs.

Now in the Event I've copied over from the Original Library -- which I thought would be just the single film 'Folder' with its collection of 'SmartWord Collections, but instead is scores of SmartWord Collections from all the separate Folders in the Original Event of Original Library.

I'm thinking I could just delete all the non-relevant SmartWord Collections and I'd be alright, right Tom? Just keeping the SmartWord collections relevant to this particular film, which will now be the sole film in this NEW Library.
