Yes it is acceptable.
As long as it meets the condition and functionality that was described when the trade in deal was struck there should be no problem.
If that condition stray far from stated, you'll be presented a revised trade in value after it is received. You can either accept that revision or reject it at that time.

If you use the online trade in option, the final decision on the trade in value is made by a third party partner company which may not be Apple's initial estimate, so take lots of photos of the device just in case.
