Mail app fetch new data

On iPhone SE with iOS 17.2.1 the email notifications stopped. I only know I have emails once I open the mail app. I use Comcast for email and it only allows Fetch (push not allowed). Prior to iOS 17 the Fetch New Data worked every 15 minutes, but now I don’t receive any notifications or emails until I open the Mail Application. Are others having this issue or know how to fix it?

I spent time now and then trying to find the settings to update. I finally found the Mail notification setting was turned off.

Settings>Sounds&Haptics>New Mail was set to “None(default)”.

So how did this get set? Not by me!

After turning this on I started seeing notifications for new emails, but no sounds with the notification. I had to turn it back on in “Custom Notifications” for email.

Settings>Mail>Custom Notifications

Look at the account settings. Mine were set to “Badges”. I changed my Comcast account to toggle on Alerts, which changed to “Alert, Sounds, Badges”.

Once these changes were made I started receiving notifications for email when received. My Fetch settings were correct, but the email didn’t show until I opened the Mail app. After correcting the notifications and sound settings it appears to be working correctly.
