the import audio file button is greyed out for me and won't let me select it is there a reason this is happening?

Create and select an audio track in the arrange, then try again.

I have this problem on occasion too, typically with the Import shortcut button. For some reason, even if you have audio track selected, it is still greyed out. Of course there are workarounds, but there is no logic to this (excuse the pun!)
