Mac Mini M2 to NAD M33

I would like to know if it's possible to select in the Mac Mini M2 midi the USB output when it is connected to the NAD m33 with a cable with usb to coax converter? (The NAD M33 has no USB input, only coax inputs).

Or will the mac mini not see the NAD M33 as an output device? I would like to know before I buy a Mac Mini M2.

I'd like to use the mac mini m2 as a streamer for music to the NAD M33.

You would need a USB to TOSLINK or digital coax adapter. Many have both options. They can be cheap to quite expensive. Just search Amazon "USB to TOSLINK".

In the Audio MIDI Setup and also in the in the Control Center it is the USB device that will show up not as NAD M33. Optical and coaxial are one way connections and by design do not care what they are connected to.

None of the new Mac's support Optical Digital (Toslink) from their Headphone output ports.

1) To take advantage of the M33's Optical Digital input you would also need a USB-C to Optical Digital converter.

2) The other option is a 3.5mm to RCA cable from the Mac mini's Headphone output port to the M33's line-in stereo input.

If you mean streaming Apple Music, it won’t work, unfortunately. For most of the rest, you don’t need a Mac mini, just the BlueOS app.

I would discourage proceeding on the path, because there is absolutely no support for this setup from Apple. Which means you’re on your own not just to make it work but also if it stops working in future i.e. future macOS upgrades block it.

Thank you for your reply. When I go for option:

1) To take advantage of the M33's Optical Digital input you would also need a USB-C to Optical Digital converter.

For example with a device like this:

OR

Will the Apple M2 recognize the NAD M33 as an outputdevice in the MIDI centre? Since there are no drivers available?

Will I be able to select the usb output for audio in the M2? Some people tell me no, others say yes.

Those should get you connected, but that's about it.

I have to agree with hcsitas that the lack of Apple Support would be challenging and with woodmeister50 that the MIDI setup would be iffy thru a USB to Digital adapter.
