Dog Walking Workout
Why isn't this a thing native to Apple Watch? I don't want to get a third party app for this since Workout is so integrated into the Apple ecosystem.
The walking workout doesn't cut it. When one walks their dog there are frequent stops, not just to pick up the dog's business, but also because the dog is investigating various new and familiar spots for the latest pee-mail. Having the Watch ask you to pause the workout and then restart it every time is completely unworkable.
Fortunately, Auto Pause is available for running and outdoor cycling. Why not include this feature for dog walking? And while you're at it, include the ability to turn of notifications for Auto Pause. I don't need to be informed that I have paused my walk and then restarted it. I kind of know that already. I just want the Watch to track this silently in the background. I am currently experimenting with using the Running workout while walking my dog.
Let me offer a few of observations and a suggestion for Apple. First, all Apple Watch users can be categorized into four sets for this topic: 1) Those that own dogs but don't run. 2) Those that run but don't own dogs. 3) Those that own dogs and run. 4) Those that neither own dogs nor run. This latter category can be ignored. Those in categories 1 and 2 can use the running Auto Pause for their activity. However, those in category 3 will not want to use the Auto Pause for running while walking their dog and for running workouts as well. Their data will be corrupted by two completely different kinds of workout. I suppose that they could possibly use Auto Pause with the outdoor cycling workout. That doesn't solve the problem for those in category 3 that also cycle outdoors.
The suggestion for Apple is obvious. Please develop a Dog Walking workout--separate form the existing walking workout--that has Auto Pause as an option, and that can work silently in the back ground. How hard can that be?
