Apple markets iPhones for different regions of the world. There is no model sold or designated as an "international" version.

Since the warranty on an iPhone is generally only good in the country in which the phone is purchased, your best option might be to purchase an iPhone in the country in which you will be spending most of your time.

I would be very careful purchasing phones from stores that say they have international versions.

As Bob Timmons pointed out, there is no such thing as an international version, and Apple will only supply the version meant for that region to authorized resellers.

So it they are claiming this is an international version, it is most likely a grey market version they purchased from who knows where and good luck with getting support or warranty work done anywhere.

Also, when they purchased this grey market version from another location, the warranty started counting down when they purchased it, not when you purchase it from them.

Apple does not market any iPhone with a designation of "international version", so this claim is being made by the local dealer.

Your guess is as good as ours as to what this really means. If you plan to use the phone in South Africa, you should insist on a written guarantee that the phone will work in South Africa.

Please keep in mind that if you buy the phone in UAE and have problems in South Africa that Apple will not be able to help you.
