Spilt liquid on MacBook Pro 13″ trackpad

Hello, recently I spilt a bit of toner pad liquid onto my MacBook Pro 13″ trackpad right on the left edge. The liquid has a similar consistency to water but is a little bit more sticky.

I was just wondering how resistant the MBP is to liquid damage and if there any liquid sensitive parts underneath the trackpad? For extra context, I bought the laptop in 2022. It wasn't too much liquid but definitely enough to get me a little worried.

For time being I shut off the laptop and dried off all the liquid using a microfibre cloth, then flipped the laptop upside down with a cotton bud to soak any water. I used a paper towel to check the crevice, it didn't come out wet which I guess is a good sign.

Anyways, I was wondering if there's anything else I should do. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hopefully but, from my looking at take-apart images of the Macbook Pro trackpad from that period, it does not look to be sealed to the case. Liquid could get around it.

You could simply wait to see if the computer fails but that is not a great plan. Liquid-induced failures sometimes occur weeks or month after exposure. As time goes by, damage can get worse.

Did you purchase AppleCare Plus coverage? If so, is it still in effect?

The trackpad is not something the home user user should try to remove for inspection, so I believe an immediate evaluation by Apple is the best action at this point. Prepare to hear bad news.

Most notebook computers that get wet never recover. Put your homeowners'/renters' insurance on notice ASAP of a potential total loss. Many such policies cover accidental damage to your tech gear.

Unless you have AppleCarePlus, that may be the only financial relief available for an unfortunate occurrence.
