Files on the desktop disappeared

I recently realized that my desktop is empty, and all of the files/folders that were originally located on it have disappeared! I have not deleted any file/directory, though.

Moreover, the desktop folder, which was originally named "Schreibtisch" (which is German) is now called "Desktop".

Does anyone know anything about this, or have seen the same problem?

There is a temporary folder of iCloud data on the Macintosh HD folder that may have your desktop.

If not, my advise is to stop using iCloud for document backup and instead use an external hard drive or flash drive.

iCloud backup is limited to the upstream bandwidth. If that bandwidth gets stuck your data may be in limbo.

While is nice to see your data on your iPhone and iPad, you can also use AirDrop for that.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Not sure if I understand.

The desktop had been there for years. It has also been synced with iCloud since then.

And, it was originally named "Schreibtisch". Now it is empty, and is called "Desktop".

So, where can I find the old "Schreibtisch" folder?

Finally, I don't think I changed anything to iCloud sync recently. At least, not that I know.
