Mac mini m2 display is not black on sleep mode

when my Mac mini goes into sleep mode ( I have tried different times) the screen should be black but not every time it will be snow and the only way to get back to the login screen is to push the power button and the sign in. when the Mac mini is in the snow screen both keyboard and mouse are inactive?

Yes I've seen this and read a lot of reported gray snow issue with Displays and TV's on the HDMI port.

The latest macOS versions are having various issues with automatic sleep mode. Some systems crash and force a restart, some just freeze up and are unresponsive, other wake up to gray snow or a black screen.

As a test:

Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allowing the display to turn off.

Then just leave the Mac mini on with the display set to shut off or shut down for longer times of non-use.

Another option:

Move the display from the HDMI port to one of the Mac mini Thunderbolt/USB-C ports using a USB-C adapter.
