Bought AirPods for a flight to Boston last April, brilliant loved them.( used them for outbound and return flights only) 2 weeks later extremely itchy right ear, so was prescribed Opticom ear drops , job done. Flew to San Francisco this September and literally 2 weeks later same problem!!! Due to fly to Texas in may, can I assume the same thing will happen again?

However, silicone allergies are quite common. You may be allergic. In that case, try a different kind of tip. Amazon has a huge variety. I have some foam tips because the Apple ones don't stay in my ears. They were about $10 and work wonderfully.
Consider taking the AirPods out at least once an hour for five minutes or so and letting your ears rest.
And this may sound a bit unrelated but drink lots of water. Airplanes are very, very dry. Staying well hydrated may help your ears or it may not. But, it will certainly help the rest of you.
