Drag items from Downloads

I was stymied trying to drag items out of the Downloads folder when I open it from the Dock. It doesn't allow that. What I've been doing is opening any folder on the desktop then selecting Downloads on the left menu list. Then THAT window allows me to move items from Downloads to Desktop or any folder I desire.

I just discovered this option: When I click in Dock on Downloads there is an option at the very bottom of the pop-up Downloads window that says "Open in Finder". Lo and behold it opens a new window for Downloads and you don't have to open any other folders to get there.

I know this is pretty basic but it has been a mystery for a while and a bit of a nuisance. At least now I won't forget and then try to drag an item to desktop directly from the Downloads via Dock. Hope someone else appreciates this!
