UM-1G MIDI not recognized by Garageband?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Yamaha P95 with midi capabilities and a UM-1G cakewalk midi cable. I have downloaded the driver and got it all working (i.e. when I test the midi output in utilities-audio MIDI setup, the light blinks). However, when I go into System Preferences and Sound, it tells me I still only have one Input on my computer, the built in microphone. And when I try to use the keyboard as a MIDI controller in Garageband, I go to Preferences, Audio-Midi, and under Audio Input I have two options: Built in, and System Settings, neither of which are the MIDI keyboard. On that same window however it says 1 MIDI device detected, but how do I tell Garageband that THAT'S the input I want to use??

This has all just been very frustrating. Thank you for any help.

Hi! I happen to have exactly the same problem than OP with my MacBook, a Yamaha keyboard and a Cakewalk UM-1G midi interface. Bad news is: the powered USB hub doesn't solve anything...

I've tried everything. Upgrading to Snow Leopard, to iLife 09, downloading updated drivers, trying any cable configuration. Nothing works! This is indeed terribly frustrating, especially since I invested more than 200 euros on update and connections. Would anybody know of an alternative to GarageBand? I want to check that I'm not wasting energy solving some unknown hardware issue... Thanks by advance.
