iPad Mini Gen1 won’t let me sign into iCloud

I have an iPad mini gen 1 running ios8.3 that has been sitting a drawer for years. I would like to repurpose it.

I can sign into my AppleID. However, it doesn’t seem to want me to sign into iCloud, which from my understanding should be the same password. Because of this, I can’t do anything (update the iOS, factory reset, add videos/music etc.). It keeps popping up asking me to sign into iCloud, but when I do, it says the password is invalid.

Any help would be appreciated.

I decided to use my IPad Mini Gen 1 after 5 years.

Had the same issue but managed to resolve it.

After connecting to wifi, select the wifi network> Renew Lease
Retry your iCloud login
Your other devices would receive an alert and will show a passcode
Enter your password followed by the passcode into the password field.

Note: my devices (iPhone and iMac) went abit crazy. Sending me multiple and continuous alerts for the passcode. But it calmed down after 2 mins.

I also went onto ICloud.com to double check that my iPad mini is detected and it is showing as online now.
