Airpods will not charge

I have Gen 1 airpods. previously I could only charge them with the provided USB-C to lightning cable a standard usb-3.0 would not charge them. as of now I have used all the battery in the case and each airpod but when I plug it in to charge the amber light flashes for 1 second then turns off and the charging status is not displayed. I have tried three different cables plugging into the wall and my computer and nothing will charge them. I tried resetting the air pods but I think the case battery is too low to do that. can someone help me figure out what is wrong.
